Everything you need to know about Can Llobet
Can Llobet is one of those places you fall in love from the moment you step in. It’s a little oasis of peace in the middle of Montseny, a beautiful mountain range north of Barcelona. So, it’s the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and slow down during your trip. Plus, there are many adventures to do nearby.
The story of this charming place started more than 700 years ago when a rich family from Barcelona built it to holiday there. The house is full of historical objects, like the big painting in the living room depicting the owners of the house together with the Kings of Spain.
The masia
Can Llobet is a masia (a traditional Catalan country house), and it’s full of charm, with lots of eclectic art, vintage pieces, and a collection of clocks, giving it a unique personality. It’s been beautifully restored to keep its rustic essence while adding all the modern comforts you’d expect.
Jordi, the owner, has clearly poured his heart into every detail, and it shows. From the moment you arrive, you can feel his dedication to making you feel completely at home.
Besides the rooms, Can Llobet has a big common area with a cosy fireplace, comfy sofas, and several tables. The area is perfect for unwinding after a day outdoors, and it also has a self-service bar stocked with local liquors and wines. The space was so cosy that we ended up spending most of our time in Can Llobet there, playing board games, chatting, and reading by the fire.
Another thing we loved is that Can Llobet has a strong focus on sustainability. For example, electricity is powered by solar panels, soaps are made with natural ingredients, and food is local. Even the scented sachets are handmade by Jordi’s daughter using plants from their garden.
The rooms
Can Llobet has six rooms: five double ones and a family one that fits four people (it has one double bed and a bunk bed). Each room has its own bathroom.
The rooms have rustic décor, and although they aren’t big (except the superior ones), they are really comfy.
The outdoor area
Outside, there’s a beautiful terrace ideal for dining, reading, or enjoying a drink on sunny days. The views from the terrace are impressive, and on clear days, you can spot the Mediterranean Sea.
At night, it’s beautifully lit, creating the perfect setting for al fresco dinners in summer.
There’s also a lovely garden with some herbs, a trampoline, an area to sunbathe, and plenty of space for the kids to run around and play.
The food
The food was simply excellent: typical local cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients.
During our stay, we had a lovely, homemade dinner. We got a 3-course meal that consisted of carrot soup, a berry salad, a cheese and cured meats table with bread, and chocolate and cheesecake coulants for dessert 🤤 All of this was paired with great red wine.
In the morning, Jordi served us an abundant breakfast with local products: orange juice, fresh fruit, bread, cheeses, and cured meats. Perfect to tackle the day ahead!
⚠️ Important!
Please note that breakfast and dinner aren’t included and must be booked at the time of reservation.
Plan your trip to Can Llobet
Best time to go to Can Llobet
You can stay at Can Llobet all year round.
In spring, the surroundings are at their greenest. Summer is great to escape the heat from Barcelona and cool down in the mountains. In autumn, the area is amazing to enjoy autumn colours and go hiking. And in winter, you might even experience some snow!
Take into account that the area gets crowded on the weekends during autumn, as many people from Barcelona flock there to see the autumn colours. If your dates are flexible, we recommend booking midweek. Also, we highly recommend planning your stay and booking in advance.
How to get to Can Llobet
It takes about 1 h drive from Barcelona or Girona to get to Can Llobet. The last 500 m before getting to the property are on an unpaved path. You don’t need a 4WD, but just be careful and take your time. It’s certainly worth it when you arrive!
There are parking premises on the property, so parking the car is not a problem.
The best way to get there is by car, but if you’re not planning on renting a car, you can also reach Sant Celoni by train (48 min). Once there, the only way to get to the hotel is by taxi (18 min). You can book a taxi by calling +34 609 44 57 59.
What’s included in the price?
The price varies depending on the room type and the day of the week you book. You can use all the facilities in the main house and the outdoor area.
There are many add-ons to choose from, including organic and local breakfast, dinner, and drinks.
What to do on Can Llobet
Just chill
Relax and unwind! Curl up with a book by the fireplace, nap, or enjoy your favourite drink while listening to the birds. Just enjoy the rare luxury of having nowhere to be; it’s a feeling we don’t get often enough!
The house is also stocked with board games, making it the perfect opportunity for some fun competition with your partner, family or friends.
If taking it easy for too long isn’t your thing, don’t worry. There’s plenty more to do.
Enjoy local drinks
Jordi has a great selection of local drinks, from wines to beer to liquors.
We enjoyed two beers from the area, one of them with a curious chestnut flavour! After dinner, we also had a glass of ratafia, a traditional liquor made with herbs, spices, and bitter almonds (it’s really good!).
Go for a hike
There are many hikes in the area you can do without having to take the car. Jordi know the area super well, so we can advise you better than us!
But we’ll still recommend some hikes starting from the house:
- Mirador de Campins: 5.7 km, 113 m+
- Pantà de Santa Fe and Estany d’en Viada: 18 km, 780 m+
- Riera de Ciuret: 7.5 km, 260 m+
- Turó de l’Home: 23 km, 970 m+
Discover the area by bike
Being in the middle of the natural park, many bike routes start directly from Can Llobet. No need to drive; just grab your bike and start pedalling!
Again, Jordi will advise you much better than we do, but a nice option is this circular BTT route.
Activities in the surrounding area
🥾 Go hiking in Montseny Natural Park: The hike options in the natural park are endless! We recommend a circular route that climbs to six peaks (including the famous Turó de l’Home and Les Agulles), a hike up to the emblematic Matagalls peak, or a circular hike passing by Pantà de Santa Fe.
🧀 Visit a cheese and yoghurt farm: Two really good farms in the area make some seriously delicious lactic foods. One is Granja del Montseny, and the other is Granja Can Xicoy. Both are family-run businesses, and you can pay them a visit (calling beforehand is highly recommended!).
🏰 Discover medieval castles: If you’re into architecture or love castles, make sure to pay a visit to Castell de Montsoriu. It’s a really well-preserved castle from the 11th century, and although the visit is free of charge, you need to book in advance.
🐒 Enjoy La Selva de l’Aventura, a beautiful park in the middle of the forest with suspended bridges and zip lines.
Our experience in Can Llobet
Can Llobet is a place we will remember for a long time, and we can’t wait to go back and spend more time there. Everything during our stay was excellent, from the treatment to the food and the atmosphere.
Staying in Can Llobet felt like travelling back in time. From the moment we stepped in, we felt relaxed. We don’t know if it was the music (which you can listen to on Spotify, highly recommended!), the rustic décor of the place, the attention of Jordi, or a mix of everything, but we felt like the problems from the day-to-day were left behind and all we had to do was enjoy.
We had time to read, enjoy local beers, and play board games, which is something we love. Plus, we had super interesting chats with Jordi, who explained many curious things about the house’s history and art (ask about it, you’ll be surprised!).
We went in autumn, so we couldn’t enjoy the outdoor area, but we spent lots of time by the fire instead. Plus, we did some hikes in the area that were absolutely stunning.
And look what happened in the morning: we could see the sunset from our room! We set the alarm at 7:30 am, woke up, walked 5 metres, opened the shutters, and…enjoyed a beautiful sunrise without leaving the room (and we were back to sleep 5 min later!).
Can Llobet is great for couples, families with kids, and anyone who loves slow travel. With its stunning location, thoughtful decor, and unique charm, we’re sure your stay will be just as unforgettable as ours!
